The maintenance undertaken by BLRT REPAIR YARDS in Klaipeda on the MSC MANDY III of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, a 237-meter-long container vessel, was an exceptional experience.
Vessels like MSC MANDY III play a vital role in international trade and are designed to transport containerized cargo between ports around the world.
During maintenance, 34 hatch covers for the cargo holds underwent repairs. These hatch covers are parts of the ship’s hull that safeguard the holds where cargo-laden containers are stored and transported. Imagine replacing the roof on your house but on a much larger scale. We replaced around 1500 meters of rubber – the equivalent of laying a pathway nearly a mile long – and restored the rubber channels, vital for waterproof sealing. On top of that, we substituted 12000 kgs of metal, reinforcing the hatch covers’ strength and durability
Moreover, the team at BRY managed complicated technical issues like the renewal of the stern tube seal and the rudder pintle bearing. The expertise was also evident in successfully installing and commissioning the refer socket safety protection system, adding an extra layer of safety to the vessel’s operations
Efforts were also directed towards replacing 123 tons of metal inside cargo holds and ballast tanks, installation of an ICCP system, replacement of approximately 50 meters of bilge pipelines, an overhaul of valves, and repair of 4 main ballast pumps’ el. motors and BWTS installation
This project was more than just a repair; it was a reaffirmation of both parties` commitment to mastery in maritime maintenance. Looking ahead, we are excited to proceed with future projects, continuously evolving and adopting innovative solutions to meet the dynamic needs of the maritime industry
