In late December, we welcomed Van Oord‘s magnificent trailing suction hopper dredger, Vox Amalia, to our facilities in Klaipeda. Amidst the twinkling holiday lights, yard personnel and the vessel’s crew worked hard to maintain steady progress
We have been busy renewing the overflow hydraulic cylinders. This included the re-installation of the main sea inlet liner and an upgrade of the sea inlet pipeline, now equipped with new flow velocity and density meters for enhanced precision. Additionally, we were renewing suction pipes and installing anti-wearing doublers to reinforce them
Hopper dredgers are specialized ships, able to dredge sand, clay, sludge and even gravel from sea or riverbeds. The vessels are deployed for a wide range of global activities, such as coastal protection, port construction, deepening waterways and land reclamation.
Hopper dredgers have large onboard storage compartments where the dredged material is stored temporarily before being transported to the designated disposal or processing sites. They are particularly effective for dredging activities over a larger area and where the disposal sites are located at a distance from the dredging site
